Emma has helped us with interior design on rental properties, renovation of our office and our own home.  We let Emma take the lead for the interior design including paint colours, kitchen design, flooring, soft furnishings and furniture selection –  we asked Emma to fine tune the options so as not to bombard us with too many ideas which saved time and made our choice so much easier, we really valued Emma’s honest opinion and her prompt and reasonably priced service.  We would definitely use her again and highly recommend her services.

As a kitchen designer I have had the pleasure of working alongside Emma for over fifteen years on many projects, with very happy clients on completion.

Emma was employed by Furnishscene from the 1st May 2006 until 19 June 2014 to complete full interior design concepts through to installation for clients new and renovated homes.
Her rapport with clients shows her understanding of their requirements and the connection she creates with them. They trust her opinion and design flair. She completed many colour schemes but has also completed and is capable of high end residential and commercial projects from design to complete installation. She has excellent communication skills with clients, suppliers, trades people and colleagues and has the ability to plan and organise her workload under pressure. It is rare to find a creative individual that also has the practical business approach to sales and processing the work like Emma does.
Emma is very loyal and honest and has a good business acumen.
I would be happy to recommend Emma’s design work.

Caravan on the road

We hope you are enjoying your new way of life in Nelson.  We really enjoyed working with you and the results achieved have given us a lot of satisfaction and we are enjoying living with them.  We are currently having some more insurance work done and when that is completed we are going to need somebody like you to help us complete our home interior.  We have no hesitation in recommending you as a talented designer and interior decorator.

The choices you came up with for us to redecorate our new caravan were amazing.  The colours were excellent, the materials durable, easy to clean and very functionable.

We wish you all the best for your new business in Nelson.

Jennifers House 057.jpg

We had a difficult build project on a very challenging site and as a holiday home, we were concerned about keeping track of progress from our base in Wellington. Luckily, we managed to assemble a great team of architect, builder and interior designer. Emma was the lead on our interior design and her approach made furnishing and fitting out our home really enjoyable and stress free. She took the time to listen and went a step further by anticipating our preferences and introducing a range of choices of colour, texture, balance and style for our home. While giving us options she also thought about the look and feel overall and that thread of consistency really made our life easier. Emma had a good feel for the new options and the classic ideas and wasn't afraid to try something new. She became a core part of the build project, was respected on-site and personally managed the complicated joinery work program and hard furnishings. We couldn’t have been happier with her services and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Emma to the next set of homeowners thinking about a future project.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I HAVE A REFURBISHMENT PROJECT BUT I’M NOT SURE IF I NEED AN INTERIOR DESIGNER OR AN ARCHITECT?

Typically, an interior designer has the skills and professional education to design and draft new space plans as well as selecting all interior finishes such as flooring, benchtops, cabinetry, tile, paint colours, wall and window treatments and specifying decorative light fittings, furniture, accessories, rugs, bedding, art to name a few. With extensive product knowledge and expertise they can also offer advice on hardware, plumbing fittings, appliances and can design custom joinery units and furniture.
If your project involves changing structural load bearing walls, or adding square meterage, an architect and/or structural engineer will need to be part of your team. They’ll provide the necessary drawings and structural calculations required to comply with the New Zealand Building Code.

WHY DO I NEED AN INTERIOR DESIGNER?

Whether you need a little help or a lot, from answers to a few questions on colour selection or furniture layout, to help on planning and completing a complicated remodel or new construction project, the advice and guidance of an Interior Designer is invaluable.
Having a professional Interior Designer on your team who has the knowledge and experience of countless similar projects as well as the information and expertise for finding the exact products and trades-people you need to get the best result for your project is priceless. Working with an Interior Designer will help you to move seamlessly and efficiently through the project, as well as help you prevent costly mistakes or side-steps along the way.

WHAT IS YOUR FEE STRUCTURE?

Fees are based off the scope of work and I charge a simple flat design fee when possible. However, sometimes smaller jobs will billed at an hourly rate depending on scope of work. Frank Design offers tailor made services that are flexible to your needs and to fit your budget.

For example the design fee could include
Space planning, working drawings and finish selections of new materials
Design of custom window and bedding treatments, shutters or blinds
Preparation of quotes and purchasing
Coordination with contractors, architects and installers
Subsequent consultations with the client and suppliers
Researching sources for materials or products
Overseeing installations

WHAT SHOULD I HAVE AT THE INITIAL MEETING?

Collect clippings from magazines and photos of items and styles that appeal to you. Or the link to your Pinterest Boards.
Think about colours and styles you like.
Know what you want to accomplish, what the room or house should do for you when finished.
Should it be formal or casual, traditional or contemporary?
Know your objective and lifestyle needs.
Establish a time frame in which you would like to work
Have a budget in mind. Having a ball park figure is a good start.

WHAT GUARANTEES DO YOU GIVE?

I guarantee the products I supply and the workmanship
Supplied product is quoted first and the price is guaranteed
I guarantee confidentiality
I guarantee to work with you as an individual with unique styling

HOW DO WE GET STARTED?

Please call or email me to arrange your obligation free initial meeting. I will come to your home for a consultation to see your existing environment and review your aesthetic and functional needs. I’ll ask a number of detailed questions relating to your project, photograph your current space, and discuss your project budget and timeline.I will then send you an email detailing the scope of work and fee structure. If you are happy to proceed I will begin to source your job, after which I will meet with you again to review the plans and finish selections and make any refinements needed. Then it's on to the construction phase….Following construction, as many products specified can be purchased through Frank design, for example window coverings, wallpaper and furniture, I will then coordinate the delivery and installation of your new furnishings.
